Article 22. Transportation of bodies of deceased across the state border of Ukraine
Transportation of the bodies of deceased across the state border of Ukraine (including transit through the territory of Ukraine) shall be carried out under the condition of submitting by the individual, who transports (accompanies) the body of deceased to the income, duties and fees agencies the following documents:
- the death certificate or other document certifying the fact of death issued by the competent authority;
- the certification on the absence in the body and coffin (urn) of the items (enclosures), the movement of which across the state border of Ukraine is prohibited. Such certification shall be issued by the forensic examiner, in the presence of an officer of the income, duties and fees agencies of Ukraine for the purpose of carrying the body out of Ukraine whereas for the purpose of carrying the body into the territory of Ukraine the certification is to be issued by the competent authority of a foreign state with the legalization of such a certification by a consular or diplomatic institution of Ukraine abroad.
The body of deceased shall be putted into metal hermetic sealed coffins (urns), which shall be sealed by the officials, who are specified in the Paragraph 3 of the Part 1 of this Article.
The opening of the coffin (urn) may be carried out in exceptional cases, when there is reliable information on enclosures, the transportation of which across the state border of Ukraine is prohibited. The opening shall be carried out at the special department of the health care institution of Ukraine in the presence of an officer of the income, duties and fees agencies of Ukraine and the individual, who accompanies the coffin (urn), or the representative of the enterprise, which carries out the transportation, as well as other persons in cases provided for by law, in compliance with the requirements of the sanitary and epidemiological legislation of Ukraine.
